WHAT IS YOGA? 


Yoga is a spiritual exercise that workes based on science and brings calm and happiness to every human being. Yoga is one of the most important things in this modern world as we all sit idyllically and perform the activities we needed within few hours. But what about our health? 

Then after few years of unpopularity, yoga came into the picture. People all over the world now practice yoga to live long with happiness and calm. People had changed their thought from living long to happily living long. Many yoga academies were raised to teach everybody yoga. When did yoga raise? It is considered as it was found 8 to 10 thousand years ago.



Sanscrit is one of the most used languages in olden northern India. When the word Sanscrit arrived, the other term which is linked to is saints. Every book written in the olden days gives information about something or other that gave information about the past and past culture to us. Four main Vedas are very important in history. Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda, and Atharva Veda. Each single contained different aspects in it. Rig Veda contained hymns about their mythology. Sama Veda contained hymns about religious rituals. Yajur Veda contained instructions on religious rituals. Atharva Veda is a most interesting Veda that everybody likes. It contained spells against enemies and disease. The oldest Veda also spoke about Yoga, Rig Veda. Even history says that Krishna has also spoken about Yoga.


Yoga is not only done physically. It is also done internally or mentally. 

Patanjali is considered the father of yoga who crafted 8 limbs of yoga. 

During the olden days, yoga is considered to be only taught for children who study in Gurugulam where the king's son come and study and stay with the guru until he finishes his studies. It is a residential school. After many saints, religious leaders started fighting for the right for making everybody enriching in yoga. The act which was taken by them made us practice yoga in these times.


 Meditation and Pranayama are the most powerful mental yoga which makes your mind stress-free, peaceful and takes you to a place where nobody can hurt you. Yoga is described as learning finite and infinite in this world. The world might be going very stressfully, running to catch the present. Staying calm in these situations makes you think and unknowingly you might be going on the correct path. Buddha and Mahavira's story is a known story where they practice yoga and many followers joined them to meditate and get peace in themselves.



Yoga was introduced to America by Swami Vivekananda during the 18th century. Most people who practice yoga are women than men. The most popular group is between 30 to 45 years old people. Nearly 36 million people practice yoga daily in America. We people also learn Yoga to keep our minds calm and peaceful. Yoga is also actively promoted as a sport too. Let's celebrate yoga by dedicating 10 min to our busy schedule and try to continue daily.
