FARMERS DURING LOCKDOWN. HOW FARMERS ARE AFFTECTED DURING CORONA?

WHO ARE FARMERS?

Farmers are the person who cultivates and harvests many crops. They also raise different kinds of crops, orchards, vineyards, poultry, or other livestock. Farmers are considered the heart of the Earth. We live in big apartments, having a cool room, having good energy to achieve anything in this world, and having no poverty. But, people who produce these foods are in poverty, they aren't very rich, and running under many family issues. What if these farmers stop cultivating crops? We are having a good life because of farmers who provide us with food. Let's know how these farmers were affected during this lockdown.

PROBLEMS FACED

India has ranked 2nd in agricultural production. But farmers faced many problems during this lockdown. India's peak harvesting time is between April to June when winter crops are harvested and sold. Even this is the time when farmers sow summer rain-fed crops. The lockdown has hit both seasons. The main factor of agriculture includes capital and labor force. During this pandemic labor who works in the field go back to this home to safeguard themselves from the corona. Then the owners of a large field need nearly 20 to 30 workers for doing certain work in the field. As these laborers reverted to their houses, the owners will be in a situation where their family members need to come into the fieldwork.

Doing work in 2 days with laborers changes to doing work in 10 days with family members. Some family members get tired or sick while performing these activities. Therefore, they financially get hit. Many farmers don't have farm machines or necessary modern equipment in cultivating the crops.

Beyond that, they don't have laborers to operate these machines. Farmers who cultivate wheat, mustard, and pulses are worried as their crops are damaged due to heavy rain.

SUMARTH ORGANISATION

Sumarth organization is a non-profit organization launched recently in Bihar. The main motto of this organization that to help women who are dependent on farming. They teach women farmers the technique from sowing to marketing. It also helps farmers economically grow by providing a 360-degree solution. The first process is Market assessment by checking geo-specific quality and quantity demand which helps farmers in the future. Next, they check the farms regularly to ensure that the practices are carried out correctly. Then, training sessions are organized to change the practices of farmers to produce market-friendly products. Finally, marketing linkage is the main part of farming. They include post-harvest management to choose the right customers and the right marketplace for a higher return. This organization not only focuses on women but also focuses on men too. To say it simply they support every farmer. They have covered 550+ villages, 11000+ farmers were benefited, 25cr+ revenue was generated to farmers. CONCLUSION

As we nearing the end, I wish to conclude by saying farming is not a poor job or a job that leads to poverty. Anyone can learn agriculture without gender discrimination. Changing the poverty in farmers is in our hands. Let the future generation know about farming and carry on that.
