WHEN IS WORLD OCEAN DAY CELEBRATED? WHAT IS OCEAN POLLUTION? WHAT ARE POLLUTION IN OCEAN

WHEN IS WORLD OCEAN DAY?

World Ocean day is marked on 8th June. This is dedicated to making the world know more about the ocean and protect the ocean from being polluted. In 2008, the UN assembly gathered and uniformly announced World Ocean Day. It was first proposed in 1992 at Rio de Janeiro during the Earth summit. Ocean gives shelter to nearly 200,000 species. World Ocean Day is celebrated to know the effort taken and being taken to protect aquatic species and the ocean from the pollution of plastic and other human activities. It's dishearting to know that 13,000,000 tons of plastic are deposited every year on the ocean that kills 100,000 marine animals yearly.

POLLUTION IN OCEAN

2/3rd of the earth is spread with the ocean. But zooming in makes us know more about the disheartening stage in Ocean. Let's zoom in:-

   MICROPLASTIC

Microplastic is a type of plastic that is a small fragment measuring up to only 5mm. These are found in large amounts in the ocean. The species inside the ocean eats and get expired. To our surprise, microplastic is now spread all over the ocean. Studies say microplastic is also found in humans. Make sure that you use your bottle, coffee cup, etc. If you need to use plastic try to make sure that you dispose of them correctly.

OIL LEAKAGE

Oil leakage is so common nowadays. You might think about how oil leakage affects the ocean. Here is how. Many marine ships and other companies like thermal power plants release the oil to the ocean. This makes the aquatic animals feel difficulty in breathing because oil makes decease oxygen level. And finally results in death.

OCEAN MINNING

Ocean mining is a type of extraction of minerals from the sea bed.

How does ocean mining affect oceans? Sea bed mainly contains an array of geological features. This makes a disturbance in the sea bed. Many rare and endemic species are found in the sea bed. By mining, a site for once makes a good wipe that covers rare species' death. Animals like whales, tuna, and sharks get disturbed due to the noise emitted during mining. Light pollution caused by mining equipment and leakage also affects these animals.

MARITIME TRANSPORTATION

Maritime transportation is the transportation of people or goods from one place to another through the sea. We, people, throw waste cover, plastic water bottles, etc that affects the aquatic animals. When goods are transported from one place to another the package particles are thrown into the sea.

HOW TO CELEBRATE WORLD OCEAN DAY?

Oceans are considered as Lungs of our planet as it supplies the majority of the oxygen we breathe. During this world ocean day make sure that you try to reduce the plastic you use and dispose of garbage must be clean without affecting the environment. After the pandemic, try to get your team and clean up the ocean near you. Create awareness among others. The creature which is around us doesn't affect us.
